The 'look' of film, when transferred to videotape, has
long been considered the benchmark for most production work. This arises
from substantial differences between originating on film vs.
tape.
Motion capture is one of those differences. Usually a
film camera exposes a succession of still images at 24 frames per second.
Because of the time required for the film to move from frame to frame,
some of the action is not registered. This gives film its specific
look.
Video, however, records interlaced images at 30 frames
per second covering the entire action thus giving a smoother motion
portrayal and the specific video look.
The HDW F-900 camera, when set to 24P at 1/48th
second, captures images in the same way as the film camera, producing
images with the same motion footprint. The result, in combination with the
high definition images, is comparable to 35mm origination.
